5 Ingredients You Won’t Find in Cove Suncare

At Cove Suncare, we believe clean beauty should start with clear choices. That means delivering mineral-based sun protection that’s not only effective—but also safe for your skin, your health, and the ocean.

Transparency is at the heart of everything we do. So today, we’re highlighting 5 common sunscreen ingredients you’ll never find in our products—and why we left them out.

1. Oxybenzone

Why it’s harmful:
Oxybenzone is a chemical UV filter known to cause hormone disruption, skin irritation, and—most infamously—coral reef bleaching. It’s banned in places like Hawaii, Palau, and Aruba for its damaging environmental effects.

Why we don’t use it:
At Cove, we’re reef-safe and proud. We use non-nano zinc oxide instead—a natural mineral that reflects UV rays without harming marine life.

2. Octinoxate

Why it’s harmful:
Like oxybenzone, octinoxate has been linked to endocrine disruption and environmental damage. It can linger in oceans and interfere with coral development and aquatic ecosystems.

Why we don’t use it:
We don’t believe in sacrificing the planet for sun protection. Cove sunscreens are octinoxate-free, giving you peace of mind at the beach and beyond.

3. Avobenzone

Why it’s harmful:
Avobenzone breaks down in sunlight (ironic, right?), which is why it’s often combined with stabilizers like octocrylene—another problematic ingredient. It can also cause skin sensitivity and is considered phototoxic for some users.

Why we don’t use it:
Cove uses photo-stable mineral filters that protect without breaking down or irritating your skin.

4. Parabens

Why it’s harmful:
Parabens are preservatives that can mimic estrogen in the body, raising concerns about hormone imbalance and long-term exposure risks. They’ve also been found in marine environments, affecting aquatic life.

Why we don’t use them:
Our formulas are paraben-free—we prioritize safe, minimal preservation systems that protect your product and your health.

5. Synthetic Fragrance

Why it’s harmful:
Fragrance can mean hundreds of undisclosed chemicals, many of which are allergens, irritants, or hormone disruptors. For sensitive skin (and noses), this is a major red flag.

Why we don’t use it:
Cove is fragrance-free. We let our formula speak for itself—light, breathable, and made to feel good on your skin.

We’re not just about what’s in our sunscreen—we care just as much about what’s left out. At Cove Suncare, we’re committed to clean, reef-safe, non-phototoxic protection that fits into your life—and aligns with your values.

Because safe, simple sun care shouldn’t be complicated.
